Three years have now passed since the launch of LIFE MareNatura. Over this period, an extensive research effort has been carried out to document marine biodiversity across the Aegean, Ionian and Adriatic Seas, with a particular focus on seabirds, the Mediterranean monk seal, marine turtles and cetaceans.
Surveys have been conducted from vessels, aircrafts and on land, using innovative technologies and state-of-the-art species monitoring methods.
The data collected so far are currently being analysed by the project’s team of scientific experts. The findings will provide new information and knowledge to support the authorities and organisations responsible for designing and implementing national environmental protection policies.
The work carried out over these three years is summarised in the LIFE MareNatura Implementation Progress Update, prepared on behalf of the programme by MEDASSET, in collaboration with the external assistant The Green Tank.
